In 2054, after a North Korean invasion of Seoul resulted in the death of Will Irons and the injury of Jack Mitchell, Mitchell was recruited by Jonathan Irons, Will's father. Mitchell joined Atlas and received a prosthetic arm. The corporation gained global prominence following the KVA attacks in 2055, where simultaneous strikes on nuclear power plants irradiated cities and killed 50,000 people. In the four years that followed, Atlas repelled the KVA and aided displaced civilians, becoming the world's dominant military force. They utilized advanced exoskeletons for their soldiers, offering capabilities like boosting, dashing, and sky jumping. By 2059, Atlas had established a headquarters in New Baghdad and controlled significant territory, operating with an army that rivaled major nations.

In Their Own Story

The turning point for Atlas occurred when Jack Mitchell and Ilona discovered the truth about Jonathan Irons. After capturing KVA second-in-command Dr. Pierre Danois in Detroit, they learned of a conference in Santorini where Joseph "Hades" Chkheidze was killed. Hades warned them about Irons before dying and gave Mitchell a data chip. Analysis by Ilona revealed that Irons had executed the KVA technologist after learning of their planned attacks but deliberately allowed them to happen to increase Atlas's power and profit. When Irons attempted to have Mitchell and Ilona arrested by military police, they escaped New Baghdad with help from an unidentified soldier, later revealed to be Sergeant Cormack, now part of the Sentinels task force created to stop Atlas's rise.
