Lore & Background

In November 2023, the Russian private military company Konni Group raided the Zordaya Prison Complex in Verdansk, Kastovia. Their objective was to free Vladimir Makarov, a Russian ultranationalist and terrorist who had been imprisoned since his capture by SAS operatives John 'Soap' MacTavish and John Price in April 2019. Following his release, Makarov orchestrated a series of attacks designed to trigger a third World War. Konni assaulted a port in Urzikstan to steal ballistic missiles intended for the Urzikstan Liberation Force (ULF), though trackers were placed on the stolen cargo. Later, Makarov utilized a vest bomb on a Kastovian airliner, killing passengers and framing the ULF. He also targeted an abandoned nuclear power plant to refine chemical materials left by General Roman Barkov into a deadly weapon, nearly killing Price with chemical gas during the confrontation.

In Their Own Story

The narrative arc follows Task Force 141 as they relentlessly pursue Makarov's plans. CIA Station Chief Kate Laswell infiltrated Arklov Military Base to retrieve a flash drive containing intel on Barkov's weapons before Konni attacked the site with stolen missiles. Price and his team later apprehended Andrei Nolan in Saint Petersburg, leading them to intercept a convoy in Siberia carrying General Herschel Shepherd, who had been captured by Makarov. Shepherd revealed that Makarov planned to destroy the Gora Dam in Verdansk to flood the city. While Soap and Ghost defended the dam, Price, Farah, Alex, and Kyle assaulted a Konni base in Urzikstan. The pursuit culminated in London, where Makarov intended to use a stolen flash drive to control the UK's train network and destroy the Channel Tunnel with a dirty bomb. In the tunnel, Price and Soap defused the bomb but were ambushed by Makarov, who shot Soap in the head before escaping. Following Soap's death, his ashes were scattered off a cliff in Scotland, and Price subsequently infiltrated Shepherd's office to assassinate him.
